an anniversary & a new blog

an anniversary

today is a special day.  an important day.  for me, for josh, for our children.  for our extended family.  for our future family.  for generations, Lord willing, yet to come.

on this day, four years ago, we packed into a court room, with quite a few family members and friends.  we talked about our family, about how our lives had changed since our children came home.  i shared about josh as a father.  josh shared about me as a mother.  our friends and family and social workers shared about us too.

and josh said something very profound, that with this adoption, we were breaking the vicious cycle of abuse and neglect.  it began for our children many generations ago.  and with their generation, it ends.

and the judge granted us full legal custody of our children.  they became smith’s.  they became ours.  and we are so grateful.

“now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”~ephesians 3:20-21

a new blog

february 19th marked one year of unemployment for my dear husband.  one year.  i blogged about being in the ‘waiting for a job’ waiting room about two months into this current unemployment journey.  arriving at one year almost seems unreal.  yet, it is very real.

and so is God.  and so is His provision.  and so is the body of Christ, the church.

early on in this journey, the Lord graciously led me to the following scripture:

luke 12:22-32

then Jesus said to His disciples: “therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. for life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. and how much more valuable you are than birds! who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

consider the lilies, how they grow. they do not labor or spin. yet I tell you, not even solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. if that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will He clothe you—you of little faith! and do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. for the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. but seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

“do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

over this past year, i have grown in my faith.  it is stronger.  it is more secure.  it has, at times, been unwavering.  because the Lord is showing me more of Himself.  He is showing up in ways i have never seen.  He is providing in ways i have never imagined.

i have considered the lilies.  and i know how lovingly the Father cares for them, through no work of their own.  He meets their every need.  He makes their appearance beautiful.  He makes their scent beautiful.  they display His glory, effortlessly.

if He does this for the flowers of the field, how much more will He do it for me!

they’ve been considered, those lilies.

Yay! I’ve been meaning to ask you for quite a while now why you stopped blogging. Glad to see you back at it. 🙂 Congrats on 4 years with your beautiful children. 🙂
